
Today, dental veneers are known as a popular cosmetic solution for creating bright, even, camera-ready smiles. But their origins are surprisingly glamorous—and a little temporary.
The first version of what we now call dental veneers dates back to 1928, when a California dentist working with Hollywood actors developed a way to temporarily enhance on-screen smiles. These early veneers were made to be worn only during filming, helping actors achieve flawless teeth under harsh studio lighting.
At the time, the results looked great on camera, but the materials and bonding techniques weren’t advanced enough for long-term use. Once filming ended, the veneers were removed, and the transformation was temporary.
