Children's Dentist Happily Serving Danville Families

Providing Gentle Dentistry For Your Little Ones

Young boy visiting a children's dentist in DanvilleEvery child is special, and they all come with their own set of specific oral health and behavioral needs. Their dental care is no exception. Early visits to the dentist help to promote healthy oral habits and establish positive dental experiences for your child. Danville Dental Associates is concerned about your child’s total health care and is committed to providing quality, compassionate and professional care to your child. Good oral health is an important part of total health. Establishing a “dental home” for your child early in life provides your child’s dentist with the opportunity to implement preventive dental health habits to help keep your child free from disease.

The Importance of Youth Dental Visits

Mother and daughter brushing teethHealthy teeth and gums are essential for a healthy body. You can help your child enjoy a lifetime of good oral health with proper care at home, a balanced diet, and regular dental visits. Our emphasis at Danville Dental Associates is on prevention, both in the dental office and at home. We recommend regular periodic exams and cleanings, and thorough home care routines. Home care includes limiting sweets, brushing two times a day, flossing at least once a day, and sometimes a topical application of fluoride. Because the primary teeth form the basis of the adult dentition, we will do everything possible to preserve the integrity of your child's dentition while fostering a healthy and relaxed attitude toward dental care.

The doctors and staff of Danville Dental Associates know that you’ve encouraged your child to brush regularly, but they could still be missing spots during their hygiene routine. Even if your son or daughter is taking good care of their teeth and gums, tiny hands have a difficult time reaching different areas of the mouth. Regular exams and cleanings allow our team to identify which sections of their smile are receiving the least attention. Early detection enables us to treat cavities and gum disease in its early stages resulting in less cost for you and less anxiety for your child. These visits also give us the opportunity to verify that there aren’t any abnormalities in the way their teeth are growing.

Danville Dental Associates recommends scheduling your child’s first visit to the dentist around the age of 2 or 3 years. Should you have any concerns regarding your child’s mouth and teeth prior to 2 years of age, you should call us today to address these concerns.

For the first visit, our main goal is to establish a level of comfort and trust by familiarizing you and your child with what we do. If cooperation permits, we will examine your child’s mouth, take x-rays if needed to check for any signs of decay which may be forming beneath the gum line, clean his or her teeth, and give topical fluoride, which is an essential mineral for the growth of healthy teeth. We will talk with you and your child about how to start healthy habits like diet, brushing, and fluoride use. Parents will be able to express to the doctor specific concerns they have about their child’s oral health. Every child is different and we will create an individualized treatment plan so your child will look forward to a lifetime of healthy smiles.

Danville Dental Associates and the Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommend regular checkups every six months for your child. Preventive dentistry means a healthy smile for your child. Children with healthy mouths chew more easily and gain more nutrients from the foods they eat leading to overall better health.  They may also exhibit more confidence in their day to day actions since they are not self-conscious about the appearance of their teeth.
