Root Canal Therapy in Danville & Chatham
Root canal therapy could be the solution for relief from your tooth pain.
Endodontics is a combination of two Latin words. Endo means inside and odont means tooth. The dental specialty of endodontics deals with the inner structures of the tooth. The most common endodontic procedure is the root canal. Root canal therapy allows us to preserve teeth when dental trauma, wear, or decay reaches the innermost layer of the tooth, repairing full form and function and preventing more advanced concerns like abscess or tooth loss.
Root canal therapy consists of removing the diseased pulp along with the tooth’s nerve (which is also found in the canal of the tooth). The pulp chamber and the root canal(s) of your tooth are then cleaned, medicated, and sealed with a dental-grade cement, thereby preventing (or delaying) extraction and prolonging use of the tooth. A dental crown or other restorative dentistry treatment is then used to protect and strengthen the tooth. After restoration, the tooth will function like any other tooth. The tooth is still anchored by its natural root instead of a dental implant or a dental bridge. This can enhance the patient’s sense of self-confidence and help to maintain gum health. With good oral hygiene, the restored tooth has the potential to last a lifetime.
